Once used to give Russian cosmonauts their competitive edge, vibration training today achieves amazing results in many different areas.

Longer stays in outer space

Back in the 19th century, research was already being conducted into the effects of vibrations on the human body. But it was not until the 1970s that vibration training was discovered to be an effective training method. It was first used to train top Russian athletes. After experiencing the surprisingly good results of this method, it then came to be applied to cosmonaut training as well. Since lengthy periods of weightlessness lead to loss of muscle tone and bone density, expeditions into outer space used to be of limited duration. But once the cosmonauts received vibration training, they were able to stay in outer space almost three times as long as their American rivals who had undergone no such training.

More effective

Today many scientific studies confirm that exercising on a vibration trainer is much more effective than conventional fitness training. The vibrations reach almost all muscle groups of the body, while normal strength training only works up to 60 percent of them. Depending on the frequency of the vibrations, the muscles contract 30 to 50 times per second – so that a much greater training effect is achieved in far less time. What’s more, vibration training not only activates the surface muscles but also the deep-seated muscle groups.

Greater well-being

Vibration training also has a positive impact on other areas of the body. It improves circulation, boosts metabolism and increases bone density. The level of oxygen in the blood rises, vital nutrients are better distributed around the body and waste products expelled faster. This leads to greater overall well-being.
